Privacy Notice

I take your privacy seriously. This notice explains what personal information I collect, why I collect it, and how I keep it safe in line with UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What information I collect

When you contact me or begin counselling, I may collect:

  • Your name, contact details, and date of birth

  • Your GP and emergency contact details

  • Brief, anonymised notes about our work together

  • Email or text correspondence about appointments

Why I collect this information

I collect and use this information so that I can:

  • Provide counselling safely and effectively

  • Contact you about sessions

  • Seek appropriate support in an emergency

  • Comply with my professional and legal obligations

The lawful basis for processing personal data is legitimate interest and, where relevant, contract (to provide the service you have requested).

How I store your information

  • Session notes are kept brief and anonymised on a password-protected laptop used only by me.

  • Contact details are stored on my phone under first name only.

  • Emails and messages are stored within password-protected accounts.

  • Paper records (if used) are kept in a locked cabinet.

How long I keep information

Client information is kept for up to seven years after our work ends (in line with professional insurance and ethical guidance) and then securely deleted or destroyed.

Sharing information

Your information is confidential. It will not be shared with anyone unless:

  • I am required to do so by law, or

  • There is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or

  • It is discussed anonymously in clinical supervision.

I do not share or sell data for marketing purposes.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the information I hold about you

  • Request correction or deletion of inaccurate information

  • Withdraw consent (where applicable)

My website is hosted by Squarespace, which may collect anonymous data such as visitor numbers or browser type through cookies or analytics. I do not use this data to identify individuals.
